Conference Realignment Predictions: It Could Get Crazy…Soon

It’s been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will…

- Sam Cooke

I imagine every Texas A&M fan has been blasting Sam the last few days as their school prepares to make the jump from the Big 12 to the SEC.  Fourteen months ago this topic was on the table but was quickly put to rest as the Big 12 presidents and athletic directors decided they would hold the conference together.  Nebraska and Colorado were gone but they believed they could continue with powerhouses Texas and Oklahoma still in the fold.  Then Texas went and dropped a bomb on the rest of conference. (If you haven’t noticed, I’m rocking out to some classics…that’s a Gap Band special for those in the dark).  Texas announced the Longhorn Network and the familiar feelings of departure began to surface again for A&M.  The Aggies have been in contact with the SEC for the last few months, and it sounds that the folks in College Station are close to joining the country’s most powerful conference.

So the change is finally coming.  But will it end there?  What’s in store for the remaining Big 12 schools?  Since we know the SEC isn’t going forward with an odd number of schools, who will be the fourteenth?  Or will it go to sixteen and add Missouri, Clemson and the very tempting Florida State? Speculation is running rampant and I aim to contribute to the ridiculous rumors.  Below I’ve outlined the potential look of each conference in the country after the Aggie domino falls first and others continue. Some of this I believe will really happen and some is just for fun.  You’ll notice I don’t even mention the B1G or MAC. I don’t see them making any changes but if they do, this gets even more absurd. I also see the PAC-12 being the first to follow the SEC and expanding to sixteen schools. Larry Scott has done a great job as commissioner but he seems like the type to hit the panic button immediately when this goes down. Pay close attention to the Longhorns in this scenario.  I think this is what Texas AD, Dodds has wanted all along.

How do you see things shaking out?

Don't forget that S Alabama is already planning on joining the SunBelt in football. They'll be on our schedule next year.

  2. Oklahoma could end up as the big winner here. Schedule 4 non-conference cream puffs and roll through the Big12 undefeated every year… Instachampionship Game
